Psalter: Themes for Peace

Jazz composer and performer Tim Boniface and his band perform the celebrated release, ‘Psalter: Themes for Peace’. An evocative and gripping journey through the theme of peace in the book of Psalms, Psalter moves through hope, rest, protest, lament, joy and a call to action, and offers a fresh way of encountering familiar ancient texts through the composition and improvisation of this superb group. It was released to critical acclaim in July 2025.

Tim Boniface is a jazz saxophonist, pianist, composer and educator. Tim leads his own ensembles, collaborates with many renowned jazz musicians on the UK scene, is artistic director of Girton Jazz at Girton College, Cambridge, and works with the University of Cambridge Centre for Music Performance and the Faculty of Music. He is also a priest in the Church of England, a theologian, and Chaplain at Girton College.

Performing alongside Tim on saxophones will be a remarkable trio of some of the most respected names in British jazz - James Pearson, masterful pianist extraordinaire, artistic director of the renowned Ronnie Scott's jazz club in Soho, London and Musician in Residence at Girton College, whose vision and virtuosity makes him a ubiquitous presence on the UK jazz scene; Malcolm Creese, one of Europe’s best known double bass players, bassist for Johnny Dankworth and Cleo Laine, first choice for some of the world’s top jazz players on tour, and founding member of the widely acclaimed Acoustic Triangle as well as director of the Swaledale Festival for over 20 years; and drummer Sophie Alloway, the 'goddess of groove' (Jazz FM), at the heart of London's jazz scene where she works with worldwide stars on a regular basis.  As a session drummer, she has recorded at top studios including Abbey Road, AIR and Angel and for a decade has been the drummer with popular fusion group Lydian Collective.  Sophie’s featured tracks on ‘Abbey Road Masters: The Drum Sessions’ have been used on radio and TV across the world. She played the drums for all the finalists in the BBC Young Jazz Musician 2024.
